Accounting services in Georgia: monthly bookkeeping and tax returns for a company you run from abroad

Most active Georgian companies file every month, not once a year, and a month with no activity can still have a return due. Accounting services in Georgia from Trustlex cover that routine: you send the month's documents by a fixed date, the books are kept, the returns that apply to your company are filed through the Revenue Service, and every obligation sits on a deadline board with an owner and a date.

This fits you if

  • Your company is registered in Georgia and you run it from abroad.
  • The company has transactions, invoices, payroll or VAT.
  • You want the month's documents to go to one accountant by a fixed date, and the returns filed from them.
  • You are an individual entrepreneur on the 1% regime and want the monthly declaration handled.
  • Your company holds Virtual Zone status: it still files every month.

Take another route if

  • The company is not registered yet. Tax registration and the Revenue Service portal set-up are part of every formation, and the accounting starts once the company exists. Company registration
  • You need the registered address, the official notices read and the registry changes filed, rather than the books. That is the secretarial routine. Secretarial services
  • You want a written answer on one tax question, or on the structure as a whole, rather than monthly accounting. That is a written tax position or the Structuring package. Packages and prices
  • You work alone and have not registered yet. The 1% regime for individual entrepreneurs comes first, and its monthly declaration can be handed over afterwards. See the 1% route

How the monthly accounting works

  1. 1

A review of where the books stand

What has been filed, what the company is registered for (VAT, payroll, a special status) and who has access to its Revenue Service profile. If you are changing accountants, the cut-off month is agreed in writing, so that no period falls between the two.

  2. 2

    Access is set up properly

The accountant gets their own user in the company's Revenue Service profile rather than the director's login, so access can be granted and revoked cleanly.

  3. 3

You send the month by a fixed date

Bank statements for every account, the invoices you issued and received, payroll changes, contracts signed or ended, and anything unusual, flagged as unusual. The 5th works as a cut-off, and a month in which nothing happened is still sent.

  4. 4

The books are kept and the returns filed

The returns that apply to your company are prepared and filed: the corporate income tax return for a month with a taxable event, the VAT return where the company is VAT-registered, payroll withholding and pension where it has employees. A VAT-registered company's VAT, profit tax and payroll returns are filed every month, nil or not; outside VAT, a quiet month gets its nil return where one is due.

  5. 5

    Deadlines stay visible

Each obligation sits on the deadline board with an owner and a date, beside every other dated obligation of the company. If a month goes quiet, we see it before the Revenue Service does.

What we need from you each month

  • Bank statements for every account, for the full month
  • The sales invoices you issued, and the electronic invoices raised in the Revenue Service system
  • Purchase invoices and receipts, with what each one was for where it is not obvious
  • Payroll changes: joiners, leavers, salary changes, unpaid leave
  • Contracts signed or ended during the month, especially with foreign suppliers
  • Anything unusual, flagged as unusual

Electronic invoices and waybills are raised as transactions occur, so they usually stay with the company rather than the accountant. A waybill accompanies the goods and is, as a rule, issued before transport begins.

Questions about accounting in Georgia

Does a Georgian company have to file every month?

Most active companies file monthly rather than once a year. VAT and payroll returns are monthly where the company is registered for them, and the corporate income tax return falls due in the month after a taxable event, such as a distribution of profit; a VAT-registered company, as we read the Minister of Finance's order, files it every month. Annual financial statements follow by the company's size category.

My company had no activity this month. Is anything due?

For a VAT-registered company, yes: as we read the Minister of Finance's order, its VAT, profit tax and payroll returns stay due every month, nil or not, on the ordinary deadline. For a company outside VAT the Tax Code treats an unfiled return as a nil return, with exceptions set by the Minister, so send the month anyway and the accountant files whatever is due. Filing the return and paying the tax are two separate obligations, each with its own consequence when it is missed.

What does bookkeeping cost?

Bookkeeping and tax returns are from €110 / month. For a simple company they are included in the ongoing compliance plan at €249 / month, together with the registered address, the compliance calendar and notice handling. A VAT-registered company, one with payroll or one with high transaction volume gets a quoted accounting tier.

Which taxes do the company's accounts deal with?

Corporate income tax of 15% applies only when profit is distributed; retained profit is not taxed. Dividends to individuals carry 5% withholding. VAT registration at 18% becomes mandatory above GEL 100,000 of taxable turnover in twelve months. Salaries carry 20% personal income tax withheld by the company.

Who raises electronic invoices and waybills?

Usually the company itself. They run through the Revenue Service portal, are compulsory for defined transactions and are raised as the transactions occur, so they cannot be batched at month end. Someone with portal access has to be able to raise them in real time, which is why each person gets a user of their own.

Can I move my accounting to you in the middle of a year?

Yes. The cut-off is agreed explicitly: for example, the outgoing accountant files September and we start with October. The trial balance, the fixed-asset register and the returns filed to date are handed over, the bank position is reconciled at the cut-off date, portal access is transferred formally, and it is confirmed in writing who files the annual statements for the year that spans both.

Do you handle the accounts of an individual entrepreneur on the 1% regime?

Yes. Small Business Status filers declare and pay monthly, and that declaration can be handed over under the bookkeeping line, from €110 / month.

Is this the same as company secretarial services?

No. Accounting is the books and the tax returns. Secretarial work is the registered address, the official notices, the registry filings and the calendar. The ongoing compliance plan combines the two for a simple company.
